At Riverside Hutches we use a very simple formula in manufacture, we have a framework which we can then clad with a variety of materials. We generally make all our products in panels and then fit the panels together, this is so the item can be transported in flat pack form and then put together again.
Our framework is screwed together , this gives a strong join and helps the over all structure. We staple cladding on using diverted staples which twist as they enter insuring a good fixing.
Larger items such as Playhouses when we staple the cladding on we use glue as well because over a larger span Ship Lapped wood no matter how good the quality will start to bow, by gluing we prevent that from happening and increase the life span of our product.
Here are some descriptions of of the wood we use for our products, this may help some people understand the type of product we offer.
PLAIN :- this just means Plywood Finish, we use mainly 9 mm plywood unless stated
Otherwise. If our description is Plain then it means Plywood.
SHIPLAP :- This is a shaped 4.5” plank which has a tongue and groove fixing. It is
generally very strong and offers a nice finish. The Shiplap we use is
Normally 12 mm thick.
Planed 2” X 1” :- This is what we use for most framework although some items we will
Use a thicker wood, When a wood is planed it generally means it
Loses some thickness from both sides, so in fact the frame we use
Is 1.75” X 0.75” .
All the wood we use and where possible all the products we use are Animal and Environmentally friendly , we only use wood from sustainable forest sources .
